High
School Programs
Currently there is one high school affiliated with DRC. The Uxbridge
Secondary School, in Uxbridge, recruited and trained several male and
female crews for competition in the high school events. The crews
started training in early April at the DRC site on Lake Scugog at Port
Perry. Most areas of the province have very active high school rowing
programs including the Toronto, Hamilton and St. Catharines/Niagara
regions. Each year the Canadian Secondary School Rowing Championship
Regatta is held on the Henley race course in St Catherines.
The Durham Rowing Club together with the support of local high schools
is looking to increased participation from Durham high schools in this
very high profile regatta. The Club is now actively encouraging
participation by area high schools in competitive rowing. Any High
School in the Durham Region, who wishes to provide rowing as a school
sport for their students are encouraged to contact the Durham
Rowing Club for information.
Summer
Competitive Rowing
Training for this program commences at the end of the High School
Season, last week of May. Training times are 0530-0700 each week day
morning and continues until October. Competitive members compete in
CORA
regattas, ROWONTARIO Championships, The Royal Canadian Henley Regatta,
Head of the Welland and Head of the Trent. The competive program is
growing and we now have many athletes competing for medals at all
regattas. This category includes high school and university rowers that
want to row during the summer as well as those who love rowing and the
thrill of the race and masters class athletes, those 27 and
older.
ALL COMPETITIVE
members must wear the NEW DRC unisuit if they want to race!
See the apparel
page for pricing and to order.
University
Rowing
The UOIT Ridgebacks Varsity Rowing Team
will be entering their sixth season in the fall of 2011. Rowing out of the
Durham Rowing Club (DRC), the team had over 60 members last season including
novices and varsity, as well as a brand new head coach and coaching staff.
They have competed in many regattas including the Brock, Guelph and Western Invitational,
Head of the Welland, Head of the Trent, and in the OUA Development and Championship Regatta.
They also competed this winter in the Canadian and Ontario Indoor Rowing Championships.
Currently training at their home gym on the UOIT campus, the ridgeback crew looks forward to
competitive rowing this summer and to the upcoming fall 2011 season.
