The Durham Rowing Clubs Annual General Meeting will be held on January 21st at 7pm. The meeting will be held in at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology in Board Room located on the second floor of the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre. At the meeting all aspects of the club will be discussed and there will be positions on the board up for election.
Please see the letter below from our club president Jennifer Durward regarding the AGM and the positions up for election.
Dear Durham Rowing Club Members,
Happy New Year!
2015 was a great year for the club, and I am looking forward to the 2016 season. A survey went out to the membership, with a lot of great thoughts on how we may continue to improve the club and its programs. However, we will not be able to do this without everyone’s contribution and hard work. Whether in the boat or as a volunteer the club is only as strong as its membership.
The back bone of our club is our volunteer Board of Directors, and this year at the 2016 AGM, positions up for election are the Vice President, Treasurer, Club Captain and one of the Directors at large. Being apart of the Board of Directors is a great way to give back to the club, and have a chance to make change, encourage growth, and help continue to make the club the best that it can be. Here is a quick summary of the job descriptions:
Vice President: Assists the President, also has a dynamic portfolio, which in the past has included grant writing and organization of the Scugog Marathon
Treasurer: looks after all of the financial responsibilities of the club (a new treasurer would work along side our current Treasurer to “learn the ropes”)
Club Captain: Oversees all of the programs that are offered at DRC, works with the volunteer coaches of each program, and is the voice of the membership.
Director at Large: Has a dynamic portfolio, they assist with fundraising, the organization of the Scugog Marathon, any other project that comes around.
I believe everyone is proud of how far the club has come and the positive culture that we have created. However as with any board of directors of a volunteer organization there needs to be renewal to allow for growth and to keep the organization dynamic.
We meet monthly 10 to 11 times per year for approximately 2 hours (or less) per meeting. Much of the communication is done via email and does not require a large time commitment.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the AGM at the club at the UOIT Athletic Complex in Oshawa on Thursday, January 21, 2016.
