Volunteer
Cheques
We are getting rid of our volunteer cheque program. It is an
administrative nightmare, and was really not increasing our number of
volunteers. I hope that we will not lose volunteer numbers because of
this, as our club relies so much on our experienced members to help
keep our LTR and Adaptive programs running smoothly.
In saying that, I would like to announce our Volunteer Challenge. This
is a prize at the end of the year that will be presented to the person
with the most volunteer hours logged between May and October. They will
receive an Outstanding Volunteer award, and a really fantastic mystery
prize!
Hours will be logged by the boathouse manager and club coaches on a
large poster board in the boathouse, so we will see live tracking all
season!
What would count as valid volunteer hours?
• Learn to Row – 1.5-2hrs
• Adaptive Rowing – 1-2hrs
• Towel washing – 0.5hrs
• Oar handle washing - variable
• Coxswaining during Rec Rowing – 1.5-2hrs
• Club Work Parties – variable
• Assisting with Fundraiser planning – variable
• Planning the DRC end of Year banquet – variable
• Other (as assigned)
Competitive Program
Only
2013 marks a year of significant change to the competitive program.
Over the past few years we have seen a lot of growth, and this is very
exciting, but with growth comes change on a number of different levels.
I hope that the following information will find you well.
Fee Increase: $495 to
$705
This is the biggest change that is happening with the competitive
program. The program has not seen any significant fee changes in over
10 years, so it has benefited those in the past, as you were getting
one great deal! After lengthy discussions and meetings it was found
that the competitive program was not in line with the rest of DRC’s
programs, it was costing the club money. So it was decided that we
would be bringing the competitive program fees up to date and in line
with the rest of our programs. Fees this year will be going up from
$495 to $705.
The 2013 fees include: 5-6 days of training/week, gas for coach boats,
Rowing Canada Membership Fees, RowOntario Membership Fees, high level
coaching, regatta entry fees for CORA Guelph, CORA London and CORA
Championships as well as the associated trailering costs, and access to
all the club owned equipment. Please note that there are no refunds for
missed or not attended regattas; as racing is an integral part of being
apart of any competitive program.
If you are planning on racing and do have not yet purchased a racing
unisuit, you will be required to do so your first year only. You will
only be required to purchase another one if you lose or ruin your first
one. Cost $95.
**NOTE: High School Competitors, this fee increase only affects you if
you upgrade into the summer club program. Your spring season fees did
not change for 2013.**
Competitive Program
Changes
This year we will have two levels of programing.
Racing Group
• Must be able to attend: CORA Guelph, CORA London, CORA Champs and
RowOntario Championships. Henley is optional.
• Expected to complete a club erg test mid June
• Must be able to train 5-6 mornings a week, and commit to second on
land workouts assigned by the coaches.
• Be dedicated and ready to challenge yourself every time you hit the
water.
• Must be prepared to do additional erg testing and seat racing
• Are expected to give back to the club and assist with 4 LTRs
Training Group
• Will be assigned a training crew and must commit to training with
this crew every morning.
If someone in your crew cannot make it, or does not show up, you do not
go on the water, unless previously arranged with the coaches.
• Will have the opportunity to race in CORA regattas only and only as
that training crew unless decided by the coaches.
• Expected to complete a club erg test mid June
• You will be expected to have the same commitment to training as if
you were training to race.
• Are expected to give back to the club and assist with 4 LTRs
**If you cannot commit to either of these
groups, then you may want to consider joining the Recreational Program
which has a more flexible training schedule**
Adaptive and LTR Fee
Increases
This year the fees for the Adaptive and LTR programs rose with the cost
of living.
